Optional Landing Assist Sensor for Smoother Landings
The all-new Spektrum Landing Assist Sensor (LAS) is easy to install and provides automatic “flare” control to help inexperienced pilots “grease” landings by minimizing or completely eliminating bouncing (works over many/most surfaces and provides optimum performance when flying over/landing in grass).

Durable Design
Construction with advanced EPO material delivers a lightweight yet durable airframe that’s tough enough to handle everyday flying punishment without getting bent out of shape. The wing attaches to the fuselage with rubber bands so it can twist or “pop” free in the event of a hard landing or crash to minimize damage. And in the unfortunate event you damage any airframe parts or components and can’t repair them, a full line of replacement parts is readily available.

Easy Assembly
The Apprentice STS 1.5m arrives mostly factory-assembled with the power system, flight controller, receiver and servos installed. Learn to Fly Successfully with SAFE® Technology
If this is your first RC airplane, Horizon Hobby-exclusive SAFE (Sensor Assisted Flight Envelope) technology prevents over-control and crashes. It also offers multiple flight modes to deliver more control and capabilities as your skills progress at the flip of a switch:

Beginner Mode

In this flight mode, the airplane has pitch (up/down) and bank (left/right) angle limits that prevent over-control which could lead to a loss of orientation and crashes. When the control sticks are released, the airplane automatically returns to level flight allowing you to relax and enjoy simply ‘steering’ the airplane through the sky. Best of all, takeoffs are as simple as giving full throttle and letting the airplane fly off a suitable surface, or by giving it a quick hand launch over surfaces such as grass, and landings are as easy as lowering the throttle and letting it glide to a landing on its own.

Intermediate Mode

This flight mode allows more freedom in pitch and bank, but still prevents significant over-control and the airplane does not return to level flight on its own. This allows you to make tighter turns and to climb and descend faster as your skills advance.

Experienced Mode

In this flight mode there are no pitch or bank angle limits so you have complete control! You can even fly inverted (upside down) and perform aerobatic maneuvers including loops, rolls, stall turns and more.

Panic Recovery

If you lose control of the airplane in the Intermediate or Experienced flight modes, simply activate the Panic Recovery mode with the push of a button and release the control sticks. SAFE technology will automatically return the airplane to level flight.

Advanced Aerodynamics and Lightweight Construction
Central to the aircraft’s amazing capabilities are the advanced aerodynamics that shaped its design. In addition to its efficient airfoil, winglets and fins on the fuselage help the model track true in all kinds of air. Vortex generators near the leading edge of the top of the wing, and just ahead of the elevons on the bottom of the wing, enhance slow speed stability and control. The airframe itself is constructed of carbon-reinforced, hollow-core Z-Foam™ material that keeps weight to a minimum while maintaining strength and rigidity.

AS3X Receiver with Optional SAFE Select Technology
The model’s AS3X (Artificial Stabilization – 3-aXis) receiver works behind the scenes to smooth out the effects of wind and turbulence. The result is a sense of stability and precision that makes you feel like you’re flying an expertly tuned aircraft.
This receiver also features optional SAFE® Select technology that you can turn on and off with the flip of a transmitter switch. With SAFE Select technology activated, you get:
Pitch and Bank Angle Limits
Automatic Self-Leveling

These keep the aircraft from rolling or pitching upside down. They also prevent excessive climb or dive angles during launch and landing.
Instantly returns the wings to level when the sticks are released.
During launch, you can turn SAFE Select technology on to keep the wing level and in the perfect climb attitude until you get both hands back on the controls. If you are flying FPV with a headset, activating SAFE Select technology will allow you to relax and enjoy the view without worrying about trying to stay level or getting disoriented and losing control.

High-Output Brushless Power System with Folding Prop
The high-output power system provides more than enough power for carrying camera payloads or performing sport aerobatics. When you want to power off and grab a thermal, the folding prop reduces drag so you can glide longer.
Up to 3 Camera Mounting Stations Available
In addition to a sleek, low-drag nose for soaring and flying aerobatics, the Opterra wing includes an optional camera nose with up to two forward-facing stations for FPV or HD cameras. The E-flite® Timber® X 1.2m unleashed a new era of STOL plus 3D aerobatic capability. Embedded throughout the airframe are factory-installed LED lights that make it possible to fly all day AND all night, too! They’re conveniently powered by the 3S or 4S 2200–3200mAh flight battery, and can also be easily disconnected when flying in daylight conditions. Plus, just like the original, the Night Timber® X 1.2m is also equipped with realistic-looking LED landing, navigation and strobe lights.

eXtra Smart Technology
The Night Timber® X 1.2m is equipped with an exclusive Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC that can provide a variety of real-time power system related telemetry data including motor RPM, current, battery voltage and more via compatible receivers (including the AR637TA) and Spektrum AirWare™ equipped transmitters (including the DX6e and 8e, DX6 and 8 G2, the DX9, iX12, iX20 and others) while you fly. It also features motor reversing to offer special ground handling and other capabilities.

eXtreme Maneuverability
The Night Timber® X 1.2m features a wing design with a shortened span plus much larger ailerons and flaps, along with an enlarged elevator and rudder, compared to the original Timber 1.5m. Double-beveled hinge lines make it possible to deflect every control surface, including the flaps that can travel in both directions, to high angles for outstanding control and eXtreme 3D aerobatic capability. Pockets in the rear of the fuselage and the included optional-use steel stabilizer joiner give you additional options to fine-tune the model’s performance for even wilder 3D setups – or on low rates the controls can be as smooth and docile as they are on the original so you can fly as mild or as wild as you’d like!

The factory-installed brushless power system features a 60-amp Spektrum™ Avian™ Smart ESC plus a specially-tuned motor and prop that deliver an abundance of thrust with a 3S LiPo battery, or eXtra power and vertical performance with a 4S battery without the need for any modifications or upgrades.

eXtremely Durable
Composite-reinforced, hollow-core construction with EPO material delivers a lightweight yet durable airframe and offers the same flying weight as the original Timber® X even with the added LED lights. The Night Timber X 1.2m is also equipped with high-torque, metal-geared servos plus the shock-absorbing landing gear and oversized tundra-style wheels of the original model so you can fly aggressively from almost any surface.

STOL (Short Takeoff and Landing) Capable
The wing design has a shorter span yet almost as much wing area as the original Timber® 1.5m, plus it features drooped wingtips and can be equipped with the included optional-use leading edge slats for improved slow flight and STOL performance. These features, along with the lightweight design, oversized flaps and high-power brushless power system, make it possible to spring into the air or float down to land in as little as two feet or less.

Optional Floats
Owners of an original or Turbo Timber® 1.5m model can use the float set that came with it on the Night Timber X 1.2m, or the EDO-style floats are also available separately (EFL5261) and include the required mounting struts plus a dual-rudder steering system for excellent handling and easy takeoffs and landings on water.
